Eric Aycock announces Senate campaign

Eric Aycock has announced his campaign for State Senate District 6 on the Republican ticket.

Aycock, a Muscle Shoals native, is the current safety director of White Oak Transportation in Decatur, where he also handles human resources and recruiting. He said he has always been passionate about state government and is ready to get involved in it to make a positive difference.

“I think I’m the youngest of my opponents, but I see a void for younger, newer ideas,” Aycock said.

His focuses are: growing the community, building jobs and education, improving the state’s infrastructure and battling corruption. He said he might have some out-of-the-box solutions and thinking, but it is not out of a desire to serve himself or make himself look good.

“I want to make our people proud. Our district has suffered because of corruption, and I want to make it a better place,” he said.

One way Aycock said he wants to make the district a better place is by bolstering education and encouraging students to stay here and grow the local communities. He said county schools are under-funded, and teachers, entry level and above, deserve more pay.

Aycock said he knows how important it is to give children the right tools to succeed because he has children of his own, as well experience coaching youth football and baseball.

“It’s so important to invest in our kids and teach them values because they will be running the world one day,” he said.

State infrastructure, especially rural roads and bridges, are also important to Aycock, who said he knows from living in the area that those roads and bridges are just as important as the major interstates that receive constant attention.

District 6 is one of the best kept secrets in the state of Alabama, Aycock said, adding he wants it to thrive and grow the right way. For that to happen, he said people need to realize how important local elections like these are because they drive the policies and the way of life for the individual communities.

“I think what sets me apart from my opponents is my goal of servant leadership. Yes, I will be in a position of leadership, but I will be doing the work of the people,” Aycock said. “It’s not the people supporting me; it’s me supporting the district.”

The idea of servant leadership developed through his work as deacon at his church, Aycock added. He said that’s what a deacon does – serve the church and people of the church while in that leadership role.
