Phil Campbell softball racks up runs

The Phil Campbell Bobcats scored double-digit runs in two games this week. The Bobcats defeated Colbert County 14-10 and Covenant Christian 10-6.
Phil Campbell 14, Colbert County 10
The Bobcats scored seven runs in the first two innings on the way to a 14-10 win over the Colbert County Indians.
It was the Indians who provided the first fireworks of the game with a leadoff homerun to open. The home team, however, quickly took control in the bottom half of the inning.
Kenner Scott scored on a passed ball, and Kallie Allen and Abby Davis scored on a double by Harley Cummings to give the Bobcats a 3-1 lead.
Colbert County picked up another run in the top of the second to cut the Bobcats’ lead to 3-2. Leeah Jackson hit a two-RBI triple in the bottom half of the inning, scoring Katie Thomas and Scott to extend the Bobcats’ lead to 5-2.
Jackson scored on a single by Allen to give Phil Campbell a 6-2 lead. Allen later scored, extending the Bobcats’ lead to 7-2.
Colbert County closed the gap to 7-5 in the top of the fourth inning, but the Bobcats answered once again in the bottom half of the inning, scoring two runs to take 9-5. Jackson highlighted the inning with a solo home run.
Phil Campbell extended the lead to 13-5 in the bottom of the fifth inning and scored another run in the bottom of the sixth inning for a big 14-5 lead.
The Bobcats held off a last inning rally by Colbert County. The Indians scored five runs in the top of the seventh to give the Bobcats a bit of a scare.
Jackson and Allen led the way at the plate for Phil Campbell. Jackson went three-for-five with a home run and triple, three RBIs and three runs scored. Allen went two-for-four with three RBIs and three runs scored.
Emily Swinney had three RBIs, and Cummings knocked two runs in. Both had doubles in the game.
Davis scored three runs. Scott and Thomas both scored two runs.
Swinney and Cummings split time in the pitching circle, with Swinney striking out three batters.
Phil Campbell 10, Covenant Christian 6
Phil Campbell and Covenant Christian traded leads throughout the game last week, but the Bobcats eventually pulled away for a 10-6 win.
With the game tied 6-6 in the top of the sixth inning, Leeah Jackson ripped a double, scoring Jade Roberson to give the Bobcats a 7-6 lead. Phil Campbell would go on to extend the lead to 10-6 in the inning when Jackson scored on single by Allen. Allen scored on a single by Emily Swinney. Swinney scored on an error by the Covenant Christian shortstop.
Phil Campbell took an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first inning when Katie Thomas scored on an error. The Eagles took a 2-1 lead in the bottom half of the inning.
The Bobcats reclaimed the lead in the top of the second inning on two exciting plays. Abby Davis stole home to tie the game. Chloe Roberson followed with an inside-the-park home run to give the Bobcats a 3-2 lead.
Covenant Christian took the lead again in the bottom of the third inning, scoring three runs to put the Eagles on top 5-3.
Darby Elliott scored on a double by Roberson to cut the Eagles’ lead to 5-4. The Bobcats took the lead on the next at-bat when Jackson stroked a two-run homer over the left field fence to make the score 6-5.
The Eagles tied the game in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Jackson went two-for-fove with a home run and double, three RBIs and two runs scored. Roberson went two-for-two with a home run and double, two RBIs and two runs scored.
Allen also doubled for the Bobcats.
