Phil Campbell clinches area title with wins over Lamar County

The Phil Campbell Bobcats clinched their third straight area title with 10-0 and 7-5 wins over the Lamar County Bulldogs.

With the game tied at 4-4 in the top of the sixth inning, the Bobcats took advantage of a fielding error by Lamar County to take the lead and go on to win the game.

Phil Campbell took an 1-0 early lead in the top of the first inning on a Chase Hutchens single scoring Daniel Smith.

The Bobcats extended their led to 3-0 in the top of the second on a two-RBI single by Nate Owens scoring Brandon Thomas and Cole Motes.

Lamar County scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to take a 4-3 lead.

Phil Campbell tied the game in the top of the fifth when Motes singled in Joe Hardy.

The Bobcats reclaimed the lead in the top of the sixth inning on the error by Lamar County scoring Brandon Thomas. They extended their lead to 7-4 on a two-RBI single by Brody Nix scoring Brett Saint and Hardy.

Lamar County added their final run in the bottom of the sixth.

Owens and Nix both had two RBIs. Hardy scored two runs.

Ridge Raper pitched six innings, allowing four hits and five runs and striking out six batters.

Peyton Thomas homered and pitched a two-hit shutout in game one of the Phil Campbell Bobcats series against Lamar County last week. Thomas mowed down seven Bulldog batters.

Phil Campbell scored two runs in the second inning, four in the third and four in the fifth for the easy win.

Chase Hutchens had a double and scored three runs. Joe Hardy and Mike Wrona scored two runs. Wrona also tripled.

Cole Motes had two RBIs. Nix doubled.
