Job fair to target high school seniors April 19

Through a joint effort by Franklin, Lauderdale, Lawrence and Colbert counties, a job fair has been arranged to “Build Relationships to Initiate Development of Gaining Employment.”

The BRIDGE Job Fair will be for high school senior students April 19 at the Northwest-Shoals Community College Shoals Campus from 8:30-11:30 a.m.

Franklin County career coach Lori Hardin has been instrumental in organizing this event, joined by four other career coaches and the chambers of commerce for the counties.

“I’m excited about the students making the contacts and developing relationships with the businesses that will be there,” Hardin said.

More than 30 businesses and industries have signed up to represent at the job fair and are ready to hire 18-year-olds who are ready to work, Hardin said. Banks, nursing homes, insurance agencies and fire departments are just some examples of the businesses that will be present and recruiting at the job fair.

“Our goal in education is to best prepare students to be successful when they walk out our doors, and hosting an event of this magnitude will definitely assist our graduates with finding future employments or careers,” Russellville High School Principal Jason Goodwin said.

The technical department at NW-SCC will be providing computers at the job fair so students can apply for jobs on the spot if they choose. Career coaches and counselors will be on hand to assist students with their applications.

Organizers are encouraging students to bring copies of their resumes to the job fair to hand out to businesses they are interested in.

“Franklin County Schools are always looking for ways to connect our students with job opportunities. As educators we strive to have our students career ready. I feel like this is an excellent opportunity for our seniors to make connections with future employers,” Franklin County Superintendent Greg Hamilton said.

Belk will have displays set up showing different types of work appropriate attire, and Hardin said she and other organizers are encouraging the students to dress in work appropriate attire for the event.
