APRIL 4, 2018
Hi folks,
The month of April is here, and I certainly hope everyone had a wonderful Easter Sunday. I know many of the children enjoyed the day to hide and hunt Easter eggs and show off those new Easter outfits.
April holds so many happy memories for me, and I love reminiscing over many of these happy times.
I remember that Dr. R.O. Underwood celebrated his birthday in April (maybe April 1). He was such a wonderful man and certainly a good doctor to me and my family. His building was located one block south of our store, and I remember the day my father passed away. The first person to arrive at our store, to check on my dad, was Dr. Underwood. There are so many good memories of him and his dear wife.
“Good Friday” is the day a lot of people plant their gardens, and it’s the day that my friend Harlan King really looked forward to. I remember well how the street would be full of all types of plants, all kinds of seeds, and a broad smile was on Harlan’s face for the entire day. Each time the cash register would ring, the smile would grow larger.
Another thing I look forward to each year is the return of the hummingbirds. I plan to fill the feeders and have them ready for their return in a matter of days.
Everyone has a different formula for hummingbird feed. Some just use sugar and water, and I am told you do not have to add the red color to attract the birds. A friend told me one of the best feeds is Kool-Aid. I plan on trying this to see if I can attract these beautiful creatures.
One of my favorite projects in the early spring is the planting of flowers, and this year is no exception. I have always filled several pots with flowers, and I have many more that I will try to plant in a few weeks.
It’s so amazing to see the trees and the bushes come to life. The trees will begin to put on new leaves, and we can see the handiwork of the great God that we serve.
Thanks for reading our stories. We have several new groups that we will keep readers of Homefolks U.S.A. informed about.
Remember all the festivals that are just around the corner, and plan to attend. The first one that kicks the festivals off will be at Pebble. We wish every one of them the very best and hope the attendance will be great again this year.
Til next time,
Your friend,
Bobby
