Board recognizes honor society

The Russellville High School National Honor Society hosted its annual blood drive this year and saw great success. Students collected 383 pints of blood, which is the highest number for a one-day blood drive in the state.

The drive was held in partnership with the American Red Cross.

At the March 22 Russellville City School Board meeting, Superintendent Heath Grimes and the school board took the time to recognize the National Honor Society for this record-setting accomplishment.

The school board also:

• Approved the facility use request from the RHS Booster Club to use the RHS Stadium to host the Mike King Kicking Camp as a fundraiser June 29.
• Approved the request from AnnaKay Holland for the FBLA students to participate in the FBLA State Leadership Conference in Birmingham April 12-13.
• Approved the Textbook Committee. Areas of consideration this year are arts education and languages other than English.
• Approved the resolution for the issuance of the board’s $897,032 Special Tax School Warrant that will be purchased by CB&S Bank. The proceeds will be used to purchase 10 new propane powered school buses.
• Accepted the leave of absence for Mallory Smith from May 1-25.
• Accepted the resignation of Colleen Bradberry-Innes, WES teacher, effective May 25.
• Accepted the resignation of Charlotte Dollar as varsity volleyball coach.
• Accepted the employment of John Ritter, head football coach for RHS, effective April 2.
