RHS softball hosts Spring Frenzy

Wilson 14, Russellville 3

The Lady Warriors came to RHS March 6 and picked up a win in the first meeting of the season between the two schools.

Russellville grabbed a 2-0 lead after one inning of play but couldn’t hold off the talented Wilson squad. Wilson scored in every frame but the first, and RHS struggled on defense by committing six errors in the five-inning game.

Autumn Logan went two-for-three with a double to lead the Russellville batters. Sydney Burcham, Lauren Rogers, Alivia Clemmons and AJ Taylor also had singles for RHS.

Russellville 17, Brooks 4

Russellville took the first Class 5A, Area 16 matchup of the season with a commanding road win over the Lady Lions.

The Lady Golden Tigers smacked 23 hits en route to the blowout victory. Burcham and Taylor both went four-for-four at the plate. One of Burcham’s hits was a home run, and she had two RBIs in the game. Karlie Moore, Krista Sikes and Clemmons all added three hits each. Meanwhile, Megan Warhurst and Logan had two hits, with one of Logan’s being a double. Makala O’Neal and Rogers also had one hit each.

Megan Warhurst pitched all five innings to get the win for Russellville. She allowed no earned runs and struck out three.

RHS Spring Frenzy Tournament

The Spring Frenzy Tournament got underway on Friday night.

Russellville 9, Colbert County 2

The Golden Tigers won their first game of the evening to open the Spring Frenzy Tournament.

Emma Whitfield pitched the four-inning game and struck out four. AJ Taylor had two hits, and she was followed by Clemmons, Sikes, O’Neal and Whitfield, who all had a hit each. O’Neal’s hit was a double, and the Russellville team combined for 10 stolen bases.

Wilson 15, Russellville 1

The second game of the night for RHS was a struggle. Wilson scored in every inning and held Russellville to only two hits. RHS also had a hard time on defense, as the Golden Tigers made seven errors in the four-inning contest.

Taylor cleared the fence with a home run for a highlight, and Clemmons picked up a double for the other RHS hit.

Russellville 12, Brooks 3

The Golden Tigers bounced back in their final game of the night and took another win from the Lady Lions.

A big fourth inning in which Russellville scored eight runs put the contest away. Autumn Logan hit a grand slam home run, and Clemmons also homered. Batters with hits for RHS included Logan (3), Clemmons (2), Moore (2), Taylor (1), Rogers (1), Sikes (1) and Jasmine Galloway (1). Johnna Oliver helped the cause with an RBI.

Whitfield pitched all five innings to get the win.

Russellville 5, Tharptown 3

Two Franklin County teams faced off for a game Saturday morning at RHS. The two squads were tied 3-3 after two innings of play before Russellville scored the two deciding runs in the third inning.

Taylor hit another home run for Russellville, and she had a two-for-two game with the bat. Karlie Moore added a double, and both Logan and Rogers added singles.

This time, Whitfield worked all four innings in the circle as pitcher. She allowed no earned runs and struck out a batter.

Wilson 8, Russellville 6

The championship game of the Spring Frenzy went the way of the Lady Warriors. The game only lasted three innings, but Wilson had enough time to score four runs each in both the first and second frames.

Sydney Burcham homered for RHS, and Sikes, Clemmons, Logan, Warhurst and O’Neal also reached base safely with hits.

Russellville 14, Deshler 4

The Golden Tigers (6-3) traveled to Tuscumbia Monday and scored 14 runs on 20 hits to get the win.

Moore, Taylor and Clemmons all hit home runs for RHS. Clemmons and Krista Sikes both went four-for-five at the plate. Golden Tigers with hits included Logan (3), O’Neal (3), Moore (2), Taylor (2), Burcham (1) and Rogers (1).

Whitfield and Sikes both pitched, with Whitfield throwing five innings and Sikes finishing the game’s final two frames.
