Colbert County beats RHS in softball

The Russellville softball team lost 7-3 to Colbert County High School on March 2, dropping Russellville’s record on the season to 4-2.

It was the second loss in a row for RHS after the Lady Golden Tigers were defeated by Madison County on Feb. 28.

Russellville grabbed a 2-0 lead in the top half of the first inning. The Lady Indians then quickly answered with three runs of their own in the bottom half of the first frame.

CCHS would later add two more runs in the second and single runs in the bottom of the third and fifth innings of the seveninning contest. The Lady Golden Tigers were able to score once more in the seventh, but the comeback attempt fell short.

Colbert County outhit Russellville 7-4 and the RHS defense had two errors to only one by the Lady Indians.

Ticelee Gholston, Bri McCulloch, Alexia Groce and Khristyan Huerta had the Russellville hits.

Gholston’s hit was a triple and McCulloch also had an extra-base hit with a double. Additionally, McCulloch used her speed and successfully stole a base.

The Russellville RBIs were from Gholston, Sadie Odom and Chloe James. Odom and James both walked with the bases loaded to bring home first inning runs. Gholston’s RBI came on her triple tduring the final inning.

Russellville’s Kaylee Suggs pitched a complete game and threw 87 pitches. Only three of the seven Colbert County runs were earned. Suggs struck out four hitters, walked two and hit one batter with a pitch.

Colbert County’s Makayli Davis also pitched a complete game. Davis struck out 15 batters and walked five Lady Tigers.
