Library hosts Glen Willis
As Franklin County celebrates 200 years of growth alongside the state of Alabama, the Russellville Public Library is taking steps to commemorate this bicentennial.
“For every third Thursday event, we’re trying to have something that focuses on Alabama,” director Ashley Cummins said.
In February library guests were treated to a presentation of the book “The Jemison Café: Reflections on an Alabama Boyhood.” Continuing with this theme, RPL will be hosting Glen Willis March 15 at 10:30 a.m.
Willis is the author of the books “Forgotten Alabama” and “More Forgotten Alabama” that focus on the forgotten and abandoned past of the state.
Cummins said she had heard about Willis before from a couple of people, but when a fellow librarian who had previously hosted Willis recommended him to her, she knew it would be a good idea.
“It’s rare to get a recommendation from another library for something like this,” Cummins said.
Willis will deliver a 45-minute presentation with photos he has taken, and he will talk about his journey with these books. After the presentation, there will be a question and answer segment, and Willis will have copies of his books for sale.
