Vina charters Junior Civitan Club for students

Feb. 12, Vina marked the beginning of a new era of community involvement, installing a Junior Civitan Club of high school students – the 39th club in the North Alabama District, according to Nancy Horton, district Junior Civitan co-chair.

“I consider Junior Civitans the pace-setters of the school,” she said.

Bryan Moomaw is the area director for four local schools already – Red Bay, Bear Creek, Russellville and Hackleburg – and got the Vina club started with the help of Jessica Hamilton.

“I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the leaders of the Alabama North District. They believed in me and what I could do,” Moomaw said.

Jennifer Fuller is the club’s representative, and she said she is proud of the group of students who have chosen to be a part of the club.

“They already do a lot for the school. I’m looking forward to seeing what they can accomplish on campus and in the community,” Fuller said.

Officers installed by Horton were President Blake Hardin, President-elect Tristan Moomaw, Secretary Hannah Johnson, Treasurer Jalyn Shotts, Sergant-at-Arms Braden Moomaw, PR coordinator Malik Fletcher, photographer Greta Raper and chaplain Kaley Attaway.

Other members include Zarek Barnett, Austin Brown, LaDava Davis, Baylee Hutcheson, Jayla Puckett, Alex Shelton, Justin Blackburn, Conner Davidson, Malachi Fletcher, Kade James, Elizabeth Smith and Isaac Shelton.

Donna Grice, past governor of the Alabama District North, presented the sergeant-at-arms with the club’s banner, which she said will help show the club’s success, as a pennant for the display of accomplishments.
