Feb. 14 Homefolks U.S.A.

Hi folks,

Last week a couple of gentlemen from Texas paid a visit to our store. They were here to attend the bicentennial event the Franklin County Archives had made possible.

These two gentlemen were descendants of the Amos Bolton family, who lived in Franklin County. They were almost positive we were kinfolk. I was very happy they showed such a great interest in our county, and I was happy to know their great-great-grandfather was from this part of Alabama.

The Franklin County Archives is the best-kept secret that I know of. Every year many people attend the facility to check out their ancestry. Help is always provided from volunteers who work there, and everyone leaves with more knowledge than they arrived with.

I would like to challenge our elected officials to really take the Archives seriously and please consider including the Franklin County Archives in their upcoming budget in the years to come.

This organization brings much income into our county, and we all prosper by everyone who pays a visit to our county. Ms. Chris Ozbirn heads up this organization and does a wonderful job, along with the volunteers who work with her. They take their work very seriously, and for that we really owe them a debt of gratitude.

I encourage every reader of Homefolks U.S.A. to visit this organization this year and just see what is happening there. You will see pictures of people you will recognize and events that took place in the bygone years.

Valentine’s Day is today, and many folks will be receiving a card, candy or flowers for this special day. I hope everyone has a great day as they celebrate this year.

Our deepest condolences go out to the Vernon family in the loss of Raymond, who passed away Friday of this past week. Raymond was a very hard worker and a wonderful friend to so many people. He served our county for several years as coroner, and he always had a big smile for everyone.

He will certainly be missed by all, but the wonderful memories we have will always live on.

May God really bless this family in the days and years that lie ahead.

Till next time,

Your friend,

Bobby
