Council recognizes CTE Month

The Feb. 5 Russellville City Council meeting drew a large crowd Monday night. Several students from Russellville High School, as well as Principal Jason Goodwin, vice principal and career technical director Natalie Bendall and other faculty members attended the meeting to celebrate a resolution in honor of career tech.

Councilman Jamie Harris read the resolution that declared February Career and Technical Education Month for the City of Russellville. The resolution acknowledged that local businesses and industries are positively affected by the CTE program and encouraged citizens to support the program whenever possible.

Other actions taken at the meeting:

  • A public hearing was held to solicit citizen input concerning the application for a Restaurant Retail Liquor license for The Bricks LLC, 114 North Jackson Ave., Russellville.
  • A resolution was read approving the liquor license for The Bricks.
  • The council authorized the mayor and city clerk to sign necessary line of credit documents on behalf of the City of Russellville for a renewal of a line of credit through CB&S Bank for $500,000 at 3.5 percent interest for one year. Councilman Gary Cummings said the most recent time they used the line of credit was back in 2012, but they are keeping it open just in case.
  • The council approved the quote of $4,790 from Affordable Service Heating and Air Conditioning for the heating and air conditioning unit for the tennis complex.
  • Chris Ozbirn delivered an update on the Bicentennial Kickoff, which was held Feb. 6 at 10 a.m. at the Franklin County Archives.
  • Accepted a letter of resignation from Nancy Thornton from the Russellville Public Library Board and appointed Hillary Hall to take her place.
