Phil Campbell gets big area win over Lamar County

The Phil Campbell Bobcats prevented a three-way coin toss for first place in their area with a 65-52 win over Lamar County last week.

Instead, Red Bay and Sulligent will toss a coin Tuesday to decide who will host the area tournament next week.

Phil Campbell jumped out to a quick 17-9 first quarter lead. Lamar County came storming back in the second quarter to tie the game at 31-31 by halftime. Phil Campbell reclaimed the lead in the third quarter, 46-41, and outscored the Bulldogs 19-11 to secure the win.

Nate Owens and Peyton Thomas led Phil Campbell with 19 points and 16 points respectively. Brody Nix followed with 12 points. Daniel Smith finished the game with seven points, Joe Hardy with six points, Cody Cothum with three points and Ben Williams with two points.

In the B-varsity game, Luke Garrison piled up a whopping 29 points in a win over the Lamar County B-varsity squad.
