PCHS to host 10th Annual Shelby Grissom Fashion Show

The Phil Campbell High School Family, Career and Community Leaders of America will host the 10th Annual Shelby Grissom Memorial Fashion Show Feb. 2 at the high school gymnasium.
The first show will be from 9-9:40 a.m. for the elementary school. The second show, for the high school students, will be from 10-11 a.m.
Admission is $1 for elementary students, $2 for high school students and $3 for adults.
FCCLA sponsor Amy Gunderman started the event 10 years ago. Gunderman left Phil Campbell to serve as the child nutrition director for the Franklin County Board of Education for several years, but she is now back at Phil Campbell High School in her old position as the family and consumer sciences teacher.
“We started the fashion show in 2009,” said Gunderman. “That was in my first year teaching at Phil Campbell. I never had Shelby in class, but I taught a lot of her friends. We wanted to do something to remember her and the love she had for fashion.”
For many years Sandra Oliver, the former owner of Oliver Corner in Phil Campbell, helped organized the event. Sydnee Bishop, the new owner of Oliver Corner, will help the FCCLA this year.
The show will feature prom-spring apparel items from Oliver Corner, and this year the show will also add items from Audrey’s and Suzy’s in Russellville.
“We appreciate everyone who has helped us over the years to continue to grow this show and make an impact for a good cause,” said Gunderman.
Fifty FCCLA girls will model dresses this year, and 12 junior and senior boys will be escorting and modeling tuxedos.
Door prizes will be given away during the high school show, including dining gift cards, beauty shop certificates, cash and more.
