BHS, PCHS girls beat FC rivals

Belgreen 62, Tharptown 49
A 21-point fourth quarter broke a deadlocked game and led the Belgreen Bulldogs to a 62-49 win over their rivals the Tharptown Wildcats last week.
The game was much closer than the final score indicates, with the lead changing hands several times.
Tharptown led Belgreen 15-10 at the end of the first quarter. The Bulldogs outscored the Wildcats 15-9 in the second quarter to take a one=point halftime lead, 25-24. Tharptown outscored Belgreen 17-16 in the third quarter to tie the game at 41-41 before the Bulldogs went on a 21-8 run in the fourth quarter to win the game.
Emma Dempsey and Jasmine Martin led Belgreen with 13 points and 12 points respectively. Autumn Bragwell added nine points. Gabbie Moore and Gracie Dempsey finished with seven points each. Katie Dempsey and Camie Terrell scored five points each. Ansley Tate contributed four points to the win.
Brooke Daily led all scorers, sinking 21 points for the Wildcats. Aly Vandiver followed with 14 points. Shaylee Wieting and Linda Bahena finished with four points each. Gracie Dempsey, Adrianna Borden and Ameliah Dawson scored two points each.
Phil Campbell 55, Red Bay 37
The Phil Campbell Bobcats all-but-secured the top spot in their area with a 55-37 win over the Red Bay Tigers last week. The Bobcats remain undefeated in the area with only two games to go against Sulligent and Lamar County.
The Bobcats put the game away early and coasted to the win, taking a 24-3 first quarter lead. Phil Campbell led 34-11 at halftime and 44-18 going into the fourth quarter.
Kallie Allen and Abby Davis led the Bobcats with 12 points and 10 points respectively. Darby Elliott and Dakota Elliott scored eight points each. Caitlyn Mills added seven points. Chloe Roberson and Carley Nix scored three points each. Kaci Harris and Megan Bullock added two points each.
Red Bay was led by Reagan Kuykendall, who led all scorers with 14 points. She was followed by Macy Faulkner with 12 points. Carlie Lindley added five points. Destiny McCollister, Mallori Miller and Brooke Shewbart scored two points each.
Red Bay 55, Sulligent 28
The Red Bay Tigers outscored the Sulligent Blue Devils in all four quarters last week to move one step closer to securing the second seed in their area. Red Bay defeated Sulligent 55-28.
The Tigers outscored the Blue Devils 18-10 in the first quarter and 11-4 in the second quarter to take 29-14 lead into the halftime locker room. Red Bay extended the lead to 45-20 at the end of the third quarter.
Kuykendall led Red Bay with 13 points and was followed by McCollister with 10 points. Lila Blackburn and Lindley scored nine points each. Faulkner added seven points, Shewbart three points and Kaylee Markham and Miller two points each.
Phillips 60, Phil Campbell 54
The Phillips Bears outlasted the Phil Campbell Bobcats for the second time in just a week – with almost identical results.
The two teams met in the Lauderdale County Invitational after Christmas. In that meeting, the Bears beat the Bobcats 60-55. This time around, the Bears beat the Bobcats 60-55. Both games flowed about the same way.
Phillips jumped out to a 14-10 first quarter lead. The Bobcats stormed back in the second quarter, outscoring the Bears 20-8 to take a 30-22 halftime lead. Phillips regained the advantage in the third quarter, outscoring the Bobcats 27-10 to take a 42-39 lead into the final period. Phillips outscored Phil Campbell 18-15 in the fourth quarter to get the win.
Davis and Allen led the Bobcats with 13 points and 12 points respectively. Darby Elliott added nine points, Roberson eight points and Dakota Elliott and Mills six points each.
