Homefolks U.S.A.

Hi folks,

Happy New Year! We hope and pray that 2018 will truly be a great year for everyone.

This past year holds a lot of fond memories and some that are not so good, but overall, we all survived, and now we are ready to see what this year will have in store.

A lot of folks make resolutions. Many of them are kept, but so many never mature.

Our story last week sure drew a lot of interest. Everyone has memories, and it’s wonderful to go back and bring these memories to life again. We really need to look forward, as well, and make plans for a bright beautiful year. I trust that in the year 2018 we will all find the peace in our lives, enjoy the health that we have and never take our blessings for granted.

I wonder how many readers of Homefolks U.S.A. enjoy the traditional meal of black-eyed peas, a green vegetable and, of course, hog jowl. That’s a fine meal to start the year off with. Many doctors say this is a meal we probably need to enjoy more than just on New Year’s Day. I tend to agree. Every food store has an ample supply of peas, and every meat counter has a wide selection of hog jowl.

This past week we said goodbye to one of Franklin County’s best-known, Mr. Bill Scott. For many years Bill operated his store here in Franklin County, and I believe he enjoyed working in the business more than we could possible image.

At his visitation, so many made remarks about the wonderful sandwiches Bill was accustomed to making every day. A souse meat sandwich could be enjoyed along with thick-cut bologna and hoop cheese. The sandwich could always be enjoyed with a fresh bottle of pickled peppers, made by Bill himself. We will all miss this, but again the good memories will continue to live on.

His old original houndstooth hat was placed in the casket with him for the visitation – so many good and happy memories. Our condolences go out to all the family in the loss of Bill.

Til next time,

Your friend,

Bobby
