Leeah Jackson will play college softball for Lady Parsons

Phil Campbell’s Leeah Jackson will get to continue her softball career in college. Jackson signed a scholarship with Snead State Community College last week.

Snead State is located in Boaz.

“Ever since I was about 7, I’ve had the dream of following in my sister’s footsteps and playing college softball,” said Leeah Jackson, whose sister Lindsey played at Calhoun Community College. “It has taken a lot of hard work, long practices and sacrifices, but it has been worth it.”

Jackson has played varsity softball since the seventh grade. She has a career batting average of .495 and has hit 12 home runs with 174 runs batted in.

Jackson has also been a terror on the basepaths, with 110 career stolen bases.

Last year, as a junior, Jackson had her best season, hitting .521 with eight home runs, 46 RBIs and 32 stolen bases. She is looking forward to her final season as a Bobcat.

“Being a part of the Phil Campbell softball program is the best,” said Jackson. “We have worked hard to build our program. We have a bond that can’t be broken, and we have a dream we are working toward.

“This past season we were able to accomplish part of that dream – making it to regionals in Huntsville. Our goal this year is to make it back to regionals and to state.”

Jackson has had the Bobcats’ highest batting average for two consecutive years, and she has been the team’s Most Valuable Player for three consecutive seasons. She has racked up numerous honors, being named All-Area four straight years and All-County five straight years.

“We are excited to watch Leeah play her senior season with no pressure about college decisions,” said Phil Campbell coach and Leeah’s father, Doug Jackson. “Her mother and I hope she can keep the injury bug away this year. She played with an injury in most of the last half of last season. She has been working to strengthen those muscles in her lower back during the off-season.”
