Insurance board reappoints Barry Moore

Most people know Barry Moore as either Franklin County probate judge or Franklin County commission chairman. What they might not know about is his involvement with the Liability Self-Insurance Fund, a statewide insurance board through the Association of County Commissions of Alabama. Moore has recently been reappointed to the Board of Trustees for the Liability Self-Insurance Fund.

“My term is coming to an end, and they asked me if I would like to serve again, and I said of course,” Moore explained.

This will be Moore’s second three-year term working on the board, which offers custom-tailored liability coverage for Alabama county governments.

The 15-member board represents all 67 counties in Alabama.

“They rotate it around so that every county has a chance to participate and have a voice,” Moore said.

The fund offers several different coverage options, but Moore said one of the biggest ones for Franklin County that started during his first term is the Safety Incentive Discount Program, which offers cash incentives up to 5 percent of the premium contribution to member counties that meet the requirements.

“This one is important because it can really cut down on your premiums,” he explained.

Moore said the board strives for a common good that will be cost effective for all.

“I really appreciate the board letting me serve again. It’s an honor and a privilege,” Moore said.

His second term on the Board of Trustees will begin Jan. 1, 2018.
