Jerry Lee Stewart

Jerry Lee Stewart passed away in Atlanta, Ga., Sept. 6, at the age of 77.

Jerry is survived by his wife, Carolyn Thomas Stewart; his sister, June Norman; his children, Lee and Lisa Stewart of Armuchee, Ga., and Gabel and Polly Holder of Monroe, Ga.; his grandchildren, Olivia Grace Stewart and Lily Kate Holder; and numerous nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his sister, Vicki Marchman.

Jerry was born Nov. 30, 1939, in Grosse Pointe, Mich., to Albert and Lillian Stewart. He graduated Jacksonville State University in 1963 with a degree in business. He married Beatrice Carolyn Thomas in Gainesville, Fla., in 1965. He worked for Cotton Producers Association/Gold Kist Poultry for 42 years, starting with a broom in his hand and retiring as the vice president of marketing and sales. A consummate salesman, he was responsible for significantly expanding the international poultry market.

Jerry was an avid outdoorsman and horseman with a love for adventure. He fished or hunted on six continents and skied, snow-mobiled and horse camped all across North America. He was larger than life, and he will be missed profoundly.

Funeral services will be held Sept. 9 at noon at New Armuchee Baptist Church. Dr. David Howard and Dr. Lewis Gregory will officiate. The American Legion Post No. 5 Honor Guard will extend military honors. A reception will immediately follow the service, and all are welcome to attend.

The family will receive friends at New Armuchee Baptist Church prior to the service Saturday from 10-11:45 a.m.

Pallbearers are requested to assemble at New Armuchee Baptist Church Saturday at 10:30 a.m. and include Wes Chitwood, Jim Hord, Stuart Norman, Steve Pettitt, Kurt Wilson, Steve Johnson, Mike Marchman and Rod Pittam.

In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the charity of your choice, the Alzheimer’s Foundation or Halcyon Hospice. Condolences may be sent to 2300 Lemonds Road, Social Circle, GA 30025.
