Try out for ‘Toyland’ Sept. 9

In June, plans for “The Roxy’s Legend of Toyland” was announced. In August, tickets went on sale at the Franklin County Watermelon Festival. Now the time has come for would-be actors and actresses to audition for a chance to help bring the magic to the stage.

Men and women age 16 and older are invited to auditions Sept. 9 at First Baptist Church in downtown Russellville.

“We’re hoping to have a lot of people to audition,” said co-director Hillary Hall. “We want as many people as possible to audition.”

A cast size of 25 people will be filled by Saturday’s auditions. Hall said a list of characters will be disseminated at the audition; people may express interest in a particular role, and preferences will be taken into consideration, although there is no guarantee they will be cast in that role if selected.

Interested performers should enter FBC through the door leading to the Green Room, where they will complete an application and receive an audition number. From there, applicants will go to costuming to be measured and have their picture made, after which they will learn a short routine from the choreographer to perform for their audition.

A panel of four or five judges will watch the dance-only auditions and make determinations as to casting.

Women’s auditions will begin at 10 a.m., and men’s auditions are set for 2 p.m. Auditioners do not need to have a routine prepared; Hall said they should wear casual clothing with dance shoes or tennis shoes.

Anyone from within Franklin County or from outside Franklin County is invited to audition, Hall said, as long as they will be available for rehearsals and all performances. Rehearsals are tentatively slated to begin in October.

“We hope everyone is able to make it Saturday,” Hall said.

Tickets are also still available for the shows. Visit The Roxy’s Legend of Toyland on Facebook for more information.
