Roy Lane Grissom

Roy Lane Grissom, age 84, Spruce Pine, passed away Sept. 4 at Russellville Hospital.

Mr. Grissom retired after 38 years of working at Reynolds Metals. He loved music of all kinds, playing the piano, the guitar and the fiddle. He loved hunting and fishing in his early years, and in his later years he enjoyed growing giant watermelons. He was known as the watermelon man in Franklin County.

The visitation will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 7 at Spry Memorial Chapel, with the funeral following at 2 p.m. in the chapel. Officiating will Bro. Sammy Taylor and Bro. George Hutto. Burial will be at Franklin Memory Gardens.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Oscar Lane and Clara (King) Grissom; sisters, Dorothy Jackson and Ruth Stone; brothers, Howard Grissom and Spruell Grissom; and step-grandchild, Katie Burkett.

He leaves to cherish his memory, his wife of 58 years, Doris June Grissom; children, Michael Lane Grissom and wife Tynette, Roger Neal Grissom, Kelly Grissom Champion and husband Tony and Kristi Grissom Gerding and husband Jason; grandchildren, Peyton Grissom and wife Stephanie, Parker Grissom and wife Katie, Christopher Grissom, Ryan Champion and fiancé Briana Glass, Cole Gerding and Greyson Gerding; step-grandchild, Andrew Burkette; sisters, Paulette Todd and Genell Hayes; and a host of nieces and nephews.

The pallbearers will be Peyton Grissom, Parker Grissom, Christopher Grissom, Ryan Champion, Cole Gerding, Greyson Gerding, William Lane Stone and Tim Jackson.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to our special caregiver, Christine Steele, Kindred Hospice, and the staff of the Russellville ICU for your care of our family.
