Chester C. Nix
Chester C. Nix, 86, of Olive Branch, Miss., passed away Aug. 8 at his home.
Formerly of Russellville, Mr. Nix was a native of Phil Campbell and was a retired pipefitter after 50 years of employment. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, he received two Bronze Stars and a Korean Service Medal in service to our country. In addition, he was a member of the First United Methodist Church, Russellville, where he served on the Administrative Board. He was a member of the Local Pipefitters #760 and served on its executive board. He also served as president of RHS Band Parents during 1987-88. He was an avid golfer and loved to play with his buddies and sons-in-law.
Visitation for Mr. Nix will be Aug. 10 from noon until 2 p.m. at the First United Methodist Church of Russellville. Funeral services will follow at the church at 2 p.m. with Allen Beasley, Clint Busler and Bo Lloyd officiating.
Serving as pallbearers will be Butch McAlister, Shorty Bates, Randy Basham, Billy Sturdivant, Derek Martin, and Ray Hester. Honorary bearers include Melton Prince and Bob Clemmons.
Entombment will be in Franklin Memory Gardens, Russellville.
Survivors include his wife of almost 60 years, Jeanelle Nix; daughters Cindy Nix Phillips and husband Mark and Beth Nix Stephens and husband Brian; grandchildren Jessica Phillips, Alex Phillips, Taylor Stephens and Caitlin Stephens; and sister Dixie Baker. Several nieces and nephews also survive him, as does a host of friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Willie O. Jackson Nix. Four brothers and five sisters also preceded him in death.
