RHS holds awards day

Russellville High School held the annual seniors’ Honors Night May 11 in the high school auditorium. Representatives from many universities and community colleges presented scholarships to graduating seniors. Community scholarships were also presented.

According to counselor Tiffany Warhurt, to date, the Class of 2017 earned more $2 million with the community scholarships alone exceeding $70,000 of that amount. “We are very appreciative of our community for the support they provide our graduates,” Warhurst said. “That investment in our graduates will one day pay off for the city of Russellville.”

The following students were honored as part of awards day at Russellville High School.

Alabama American Legion Boys State: Noah Gist.

Alabama American Legion Girls State: Ashton Moore.

US Army Scholarships: Emilio Huerta-Mejia.

Annual Staff Service Awards: Logan Wallace, Hailey Peters and Charlie Gordon.

Athletic Scholarships: Russ Carpenter, Kalli Beth Daniel, Cody Greenhill, Skylar Holland, Bailey Motes, Austin Stidham, Judd Ward and Chad Wray.

Balfour Award: Layne Boyd.

Bob Grissom Masonic Memorial Scholarship: Jacob Aycock, Ben Chard, Charlie Gordon, Madison Lamon, DaKotah Shook and Slate Wallace.

Book Lovers Club (third highest GPA): Austin Stidham.

Billy Bowling/First Metro Scholarship: Maria Bahena.
