Vina piles up runs in area wins over Phillips

The Vina Red Devils scored 34 runs in two games over are foe Phillips last week. The Red Devils drubbed the Bears 16-2 and 18-2 to improve their area standing as playoff time approaches.

Vina also lost to New Site (Miss.) 14-6 last week.

Vina 16, Phillips 2

Vina posted three big innings on the way to a 16-2 area win over the Phillips Bears last week. The Red Devils scored four runs in the second inning, eight runs in the third inning and four runs in the fourth inning on the way to the easy win.

Austin Harper and Blake Hardin scored Vina’s first two runs on a fielder’s choice. James Barnes and Jacob Lewis scored on passed balls, giving the Red Devils a 4-0 lead.

In the top of the third inning, Andrew Upton, Jacob Lewis and Chris Brewer all scored on Phillips errors to give Vina an 8-0 lead. Jackson Landers and Tyler Renfrow scored on a two-RBI double by Childers, and Josh Cochran scored on a passed ball to give Vina a 12-0 lead.

Lewis, Cochran, Renfrow and Braden Moomaw scored four more runs in the top of the fourth inning for Vina.

Renfrow went 2-for-2 with an RBI and two runs scored. Childers went 2-for-4 with four RBIs. Cochran, Upton, and Hardin each scored two runs for the Red Devils.

Vina 18, Phillips 2

Vina scored early and often to pick up an area sweep of the Phillips Bears last week. The Red Devils blasted the Bears 18-2.

Vina picked up four runs in the first inning, with the first two by Cochran and Upton on passed balls. The other two runs came on a Hardin single scoring Harper and a Brewer double scoring Hardin.

Phillips scored two in the top of the second inning, but Vina rolled off eight runs in the bottom half of the inning. Renfrow and Cochran both scored on passed balls. Brewer singled in Upton and Harper. Brewer and Moomaw scored on a double by Jackson Landers.

Harding scored on another passed ball by the Bears. Landers scored on a fielding error to finish off the big inning for the Red Devils.

In the bottom of the third inning, Harper scored on a fielder’s choice, Harper and Moomaw both scored on errors, Barnes scored on a Renfrow triple and Refrow scored on a passed ball.

Renfrow went 2-for-4 with two RBIs, two runs scored and a triple. Harper scored three runs. Landers, Cochran, Upton, Hardin and Moomaw scored two runs each. Brewer had three RBIs, and Landers had two RBIs.

New Site (Miss.) 14, Vina 6

Vina held an early lead over New Site on Saturday, but ten fielding errors cost the Red Devils as New Site got the win 14-6.

New Site scored two runs in the top of the first inning, but Vina added four of their own in the bottom half of the inning to take an early lead. Justin Gravitt scored on a bases-loaded walk. Renfrow and Upton both scored on a single by Hardin. Harper scored on an error to give Vina a 4-2 lead after one inning.

New Site picked up a run in the top of the second to get a bit closer to Vina, 4-3, but the Red Devils extended their lead to 5-3 on an Harper single scoring Renfrow.

New Site tied the game in the fourth, but Vina reclaimed the lead in the bottom half of the inning, when Upton scored on a Brewer double.

New Site tied the game again in the fifth inning and took the lead for good in the sixth inning.

Renfrow went 2-for-3 with two runs scored. Harper went 2-for-3 with two RBIs and two runs scored.
