Lady Wildcats split week of games

The Tharptown Wildcats picked up two wins this week against Colbert Heights and Vina and dropped two games to Colbert Heights in a tournament at Red Bay.
Tharptown 16, Cherokee 4
The Tharptown Wildcats jumped out to an early lead over the Cherokee Indians and cruised to an easy 16-4 win. Tharptown scored one run in the first inning when Klaudia Harris singled in Shaylee Wieting. The Wildcats extended their lead to 5-0 in the second inning. A two RBI double by Wieting scored Olivia Ergle and Kaylee Bain. Cara Ergle had a two RBI double later in the inning, scoring Wieting and Harris.
Cherokee picked up three runs in the bottom of the third to close the gap to 5-3.
In the fourth inning, Tharptown scored when Wieting reached home on a passed ball, making the score 6-3. Bain singled in Catie Dawson in the fifth inning to give the Wildcats a 7-3 lead.
Tharptown would go on to score six runs in the sixth inning and three runs in the seventh for the blowout win.
Wieting went two for three at the plate, including a double with two RBIs and three runs scored. Harris went two for four with three RBIs and two runs scored. Aly Vandiver went two for five with three RBIs and two runs. Olivia Ergle had two RBIs and two runs scored. Cara Ergle had a double and three RBIs. Bain added two hits for the Wildcats.
Olivia Ergle got the win for the Wildcats, pitching a complete game, allowing two hits, four runs and five walks and striking out ten batters.
Tharptown 8, Vina 1
The Tharptown Wildcats picked up an Area win with an 8-1 success over the Vina Red Devils.
Tharptown scored early when Klaudia Harris doubled in Shaylee Wieting to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Vina tied the game in the bottom of the first inning with their lone run coming on an Abby Hester steal of home plate.
Tharptown took the lead for good in the second inning when Cara Ergle hit a long three RBI double, scoring Aly Vandiver, Kaylee Bain and Harris, making the score 4-1.
The Wildcats added three more in the top of the third inning. Bain had a two RBI double, scoring Taylor Cameron and Catie Dawson, then Vandiver scored stealing home. Tharptown added their final run in the fourth inning, when Brooke Daily scored on a sacrifice fly.
Bain went two for three with two RBIs and scored a run. Cara Ergle went two for two with three RBIs. Vandiver went two for three and scored two runs. Harris went two for two with an RBI and a run scored.
Harris, Bain and Cara Ergle all doubled in the game.
Cameron pitched the complete game, allowing only one run, one hit, two walks and six strikeouts.
Colbert Heights 1, Tharptown 0
The Tharptown Wildcats fell short in a pitching duel with the Colbert Heights Wildcats Saturday, losing 1-0. Colbert Heights got the lone score in the game in the bottom of the second inning, when a runner advanced to third on a wild pitch and scored on a fielder’s choice.
Colbert Heights 4, Tharptown 1
Tharptown outhit the Colbert Heights Wildcats 5-4 in a tournament rematch but couldn’t turn those hits into runs, falling 4-1.
Kaylee Bain led the way, going two for three with a run scored. Tharptown scored their lone run in the bottom of the first inning when Cameron had an RBI single, scoring Bain.
