Bobcats knock off Pirates, Yellow Jackets

The Phil Campbell Bobcats went 2-3 last week, picking off games with the Rogers Pirates and Winston County Yellow Jackets. The Bobcats lost two games to the Haleyville Lions and one to the Central Wildcats. Fielding miscues were the Bobcats Achilles heel in their losses last week.

Phil Campbell 5, Rogers 4

The Phil Campbell Bobcats built up a five-run lead in the second inning then held off a late Rogers comeback in the seventh inning.

Phil Campbell took an early lead in the first inning on an RBI single by Gage Roberson. The Bobcats scored four runs in the second inning led by a Mike Wrona single, a double by Roberson and a single by Brody Nix.

Rogers picked up three runs in the sixth inning.

Nick Swinney earned the win for Phil Campbell Bobcats. He threw six innings, giving up three runs and six hits, striking out six and walking one.

Phil Campbell racked up six hits in the game, with Roberson and Peyton Thomas getting two hits each.

Phil Campbell 5, Winston County 2

The Phil Campbell Bobcats defeated the Winston County Yellow Jackets 5-2 thanks to a strong start.

Wrona earned the win for the Bobcats. He pitched seven innings, giving up two runs, allowing five hits and striking out five batters.

Rilan Garrison, Brody Nix, Wrona and Hayden Copeland each had RBIs to lead the Bobcats. The Bobcats ran wild on the Yellow Jackets, stealing six bases with Copeland leading the way with three swipes.

Haleyville 7, Phil Campbell 3

After gaining an early lead, the Phil Campbell Bobcats struggled to keep up with the Haleyville Lions, falling 7-3.

In the bottom of the second inning, Haleyville tied things up 1-1. A wild pitch by the Bobcats scored one run for Haleyville.

The Lions took the lead for good with two runs in the third inning.

Nate Owens took the loss for the Bobcats. He went four innings, allowing five runs and five hits and striking out two.

Copeland and Thomas each had one hit.

Haleyville 6, Phil Campbell 5

The Phil Campbell Bobcats fell to the Haleyville Lions 6-5 Tuesday on the final play of the game. With the game tied 5-5 and Haleyville batting in the bottom of the seventh, the Lions hit a walk-off single to win the game.

The Bobcats outhit the Lions 8-6 but couldn’t muster enough runs to win the game.

Phil Campbell took the lead in the first inning on a solo home run by Peyton Thomas.

Haleyville scored four runs in the fifth inning.

Chase Hutchens took the loss for the Bobcats, throwing one and two-thirds innings, giving up two runs and three hits, striking out one and walking one.

Thomas started the game for the Bobcats, going five innings, giving up four runs, four hits and striking out five.

Nick Taylor, Thomas, and Gage Roberson each collected two hits to lead the Bobcats.

Central 6, Phil Campbell 4

With the game tied 4-4 in the top of the sixth inning, the Phil Campbell Bobcats made a fielding error that allowed the Central Wildcats to score a run and go on the defeat the Bobcats 6-4.

Phil Campbell captured an early lead thanks to a Central fielding error that led to Bobcat runs. The Bobcats tied the game at 4-4 in the bottom of the fifth inning.

Chase Hutchens took the loss for the Bobcats, pitching five innings, giving up five runs and seven hits and striking out four.

Nix went 1-for-4 at the plate as he led the team with three runs batted in.
