Thomas lifts Bobcat softball to victory

Phil Campbell softball saw a strong start with this win over Winston County. The Lady Bobcats were 1-1 following the win, after a close loss to Sheffield to open the season.

Katie Thomas drove in five runs on three hits to lead the Phil Campbell Bobcats past the Winston County Yellow Jackets 9-2 Thursday. Thomas drove in runs on a groundout in the first, a single in the second and a double in the third.

An early lead helped propel the Bobcats to victory. Phil Campbell scored on a groundout by Thomas in the first inning, a walk by Leeah Jackson in the second inning, a stolen base by Chloe Roberson in the second inning, a single by Thomas in the second inning and a walk by Olivia Taylor in the second inning.

Phil Campbell captured the lead in the first inning. Thomas grounded out, scoring one run.

Phil Campbell took the lead for good with five runs in the second inning. In the second a runner stole home, Thomas singled, driving in two runs, and the Winston County pitcher walked Taylor to drive in a run.
