Plan for parenting class

Parenting can be a challenge, but Franklin County Community Education is hoping to reduce the pressure with a Together We Can Parent educational series.

With an aim to “create a healthy future for our family” the parenting class is designed for married or non-married people raising a child together; single parents; other support people helping to raise a child; expectant parents; or anyone with an interest in the lesson topic. The certificate is good for foster/house parents, childcare providers or anyone needing general education hours.

Classes are set for Feb. 28 and March 7, 14 and 21 from 5-7 p.m. at the Belgreen High School library, 14220 Highway 187. Topics will include:

Feb. 28: building a strong family, goal setting and ages/stages of development (safety and resources)

March 7: discipline and communication skills (Internet safety and bullying)

March 14: healthy relationships, stepfamilies and co-parenting

March 21: stress and conflict management (grief/dealing with loss)

Instructor will be Melanie Allen, regional Extension agent for family and child development.

To learn more or to register for one or all sessions, call Franklin County Community Education at 256-331-0005.
