RMS fundraises for library books

Starting Sept. 26, students at Russellville Elementary School will begin a coin drive to raise money for the Scholastic All for Books program.
This program takes the funds raised by students, businesses and community members and allows the school librarian to purchase books for the school library and classrooms. In addition, each dollar raised will be matched by Scholastic and used to purchase books for children affected by the floods in Baton Rouge, La., and other charities across the nation.
“If an individual or business donated $50 to our coin drive, it would actually be like donating $100,” RMS media specialist Brianne Roberts explained. “Russellville Middle School would benefit from the original $50 to purchase books from our school Book Fair for our students, and $50 would benefit students in need across the nation. It’s a win-win program.”
Roberts said students will be donating through a coin drive at school beginning Sept. 26 and ending Sept. 30. Businesses and individuals will be able to donate to the cause from until the end of the Book Fair, Oct. 7.
Anyone interested in making a donation needs to bring donations to Russellville Middle School by 2 p.m. on that day.
The RMS Book Fair will be held in the school media center daily Oct. 3-7. “We will also host a Family Night on Oct. 4 from 3:30-5:30 p.m.,” Roberts said.
