Phil Campbell elects councilmembers, mayor
Phil Campbell will see primarily familiar faces leading and serving the city for the next four years following Tuesday’s election, in a number of close races.
Mayor Steve Bell will continue to serve the city, having amassed 131 votes to opponent Victor Hawkins’ 65.
“I’m humbled to be serving another term,” Bell said. “We’ve got experience in place to keep working and moving forward.”
Bell said he wants voters to know that his administration listened to what the voters had to say during the campaign, and he is committed to taking care of unknown issues that came to light. “We will be addressing those going forward over the next few weeks.”
In Place 1, Mike McQuary will join the council, having earned 132 votes to Melissa Mohr’s 66. This seat was vacated recently with Councilman Roy Nagle’s resignation.
In Place 2, no candidates ran against incumbent Danny Brown.
Place 3 saw incumbent Eddie Barton claim 103 votes to newcomer Eddie Marbutt’s 96 votes. In Place 4, incumbent Lynn Landers came out on top over Rita Barton, 105 votes to 96 votes. In place 5, incumbent Jim Cartee will keep his seat with 109 votes as compared to Phillip King’s 92 votes.
