RHS’ Cameron DeArman signs for football
Joined by his family – mom Susan, dad Cam and sister Ashlyn – RHS’ Cameron DeArman signs to play football at Birmingham Southern.
Birmingham Southern College gained a Golden Tiger Monday.
Cameron DeArman signed a scholarship to continue his football career at Birmingham Southern, surrounded by family, teammates and coaches.
“I’m really happy to be moving on and being able to play the sport I love,” DeArman said. “I love the place – beautiful campus, great football coach.”
Coach Mark Heaton said he was proud of DeArman, not only for continuing his athletic career but also for choosing a school that is academically-challenging.
“It’s been an honor to have coached him the last two years,” Heaton said. “I think his work ethic and his commitment to what he does has gotten him where he is today.”
DeArman’s mother, Susan DeArman, a teacher at Russellville High School, said seeing the academic excellence at Birmingham Southern gave her confidence in her son’s choice.
“We were so impressed with the academic opportunities he had there and the focus they put on academics,” she said. “His recruiting visit was 75 percent academics and 25 percent football. We realized it was just an opportunity we just had to let him take.”
The coaching staff at Birmingham Southern has already given DeArman workouts to be focusing on this summer, so he’s anticipating a busy few months. He said he has mixed emotions, coming to the end of high school but will cherish every moment spent with his friends and teammates. “When I was a kid, I never imagined all this happening, and now it’s actually happening,” he said.
