Rock the Lot drew hundreds of Franklin County families to Sloss Lake July 25 for an event that combined a carnival atmosphere with live music and free school supplies.

“I think it was a great event,” said Shawn Reathford, senior pastor at Redemption Outreach Church and director of Russellville Dream Center, both of which were sponsors/organizers of the event.

He guesstimated about 2,300 came out for this year’s event, where more than 500 backpacks of school supplies were distributed. “I think the whole day was tremendous from the start to the finish. We had a lot of people who were ministered to Reathford said.

The event was put on in partnership with Russellville Parks and Recreation. Director Chad Sears said they were glad to help with something meant to benefit the community.

Reathford gave credit to God and thanked local sponsors for being part of the event. He said he hopes even more people and sponsors will be involved next year.
