Appraiser receives membership designation
Andy Keelon, MAI, Huntsville, has been awarded the Appraisal Institute’s most prestigious membership designation, MAI designation, which is held by appraisers who are experienced in the valuation of commercial, industrial, residential and other types of properties and who advise clients on complex commercial real estate investment decisions.
Keelon, who provides services to banks in the area, received the designation recently and was honored during a local Chapter meeting of the Appraisal Institute.
By receiving the MAI designation, Keelon, with Keelon Valuation and Consulting, Inc., has joined an elite group of appraisers who have met rigorous professional requirements relating to education, testing, experience and demonstration of knowledge, understanding and ability. The MAI designation is received upon the successful completion of a graduate-level curriculum, which includes a 4-day comprehensive exam, a 200-page written demonstration appraisal report and attaining 4,500 hours of qualifying experience requirements. Also, designees must abide by both the appraisal profession’s Uniform Standards of Professional Appraisal Practice and the Appraisal Institute’s Standards of Professional Practice and Code of Ethics.
MAIs are recognized experts in valuing properties of all types and form a business network encompassing markets nationwide and around the world. Currently, less than 10 percent of the practicing commercial real estate appraisers in the U.S. retain the MAI designation. The MAI designation has been recognized as a sign of excellence by the courts, governmental agencies, lending institutions and market investors for many years. The MAI designation demonstrates a high degree of proficiency, appraisal knowledge and expertise.
