Golden Tigers fall to Colbert County at home

by Brannon King for the FCT

The Colbert County Indians were just too much for Russellville Friday night and defeated the Golden Tigers, 73-49.

Seven Golden Tigers scored in the fast-paced game but it wasn’t enough to overcome the hot-shooting Colbert County team.

The Indians jumped out to a 21-12 first quarter lead and outscored Russellville, 20-13 in the second quarter to lead 41-25 at the half.

Colbert County outscored Russellville 23-10 in the third before the Golden Tigers fought back with 14 points in the final quarter to the Indians’ 9.

Adonis Bailey (16) and Tyler Willis (11) scored in double-figures for Russellville.  Austin Stidham (8), Cedric Freeman (6), Christian Foster (4), Joshua Seal (2) and Taylor Vincent (2) also scored for the Golden Tigers.

The Golden Tigers (7-17, 1-5) are looking for consistency with a hand-full of games remaining before the area tournament begins in early February.

“When we play well as a group, we are in ball games.  When we don’t play well, we are not in ball games,” Russellville head coach, Michael Smith said.  “Right now, we are just trying to establish something to get us ready for the area tournament and get some continuity going before February 5.”

Lawrence County and West Point finished 5A, Area 14 play with identical 5-1 records while Russellville and Fairview shared 1-5 records.
