Turnout great for Red Bay Parade

Picking up first place in the float competition was 1st Baptist Church of Red Bay, who took advantage of this year’s theme “Explore the great outdoors at Christmas” by decorating a large pontoon boat with lights that resembled hooks. The entry was named “Fisher of Men”.

Second place went to New Union Baptist Church, and third place was awarded to TMI from Golden, MS.

“It was an outstanding parade,” said Director of City Operation Manager Mike Shewbert.

“A lot of time and thought went into the floats, plus we had a good turnout.”

Along with businesses and Industry, the parade featured several churches from the area, which was what City Clerk and the Chairperson of the Christmas Parade Committee Linda Holcomb urged everyone to do several weeks ago when the theme was first announced.

“This year’s theme made it easy to plan a float,” said Holcomb. The theme coincides with the Alabama Tourism theme for 2014 “Explore the great outdoors”.

Following the Red Bay Christmas parade, the City of Red Bay and Lions’ Club held their annual Red Bay Bucks drawing, where a total of $1,500 in Red Bay Bucks were given away to those that were present.

Red Bay Bucks can be spent at any of the participating merchant stores through Christmas. The $1,500 was made up of 10-$50.00 winners, five-$100.00 winners, one $200.00 winner, and one $300.00 winner.

“It was a great way to start the Christmas season, and to help promote our local merchants.” Shewbert added.
