The Vina Red Devils cross-country track team competed in the state cross-country track meet last weekend where the Red Devils finished ninth in the state.

“I am really proud of these girls for competing at this level,” coach Paul Humphres said.

“It’s certainly not easy to get out there and run long distances at the pace you have to to compete at this level.

“These girls showed they had the hearts of champions. We started the summer with eight runners and because of injury we ended up with five (the minimum to have a team). They could have given up and quit but they didn’t. They kept running and competing and that is what makes winners.”

Emily Renfrow was the Red Devils leading runner finishing in 27th place overall with a time of 21:53. Mary Morgan Clingan finished 44th with a time of 22:48. Elizabeth Baty finished 46th with a time of 22:55. Anna Belle Humphres finished 67th with a time of 24:20. Emma Humphres finished 107th with a time 22:27.
