Woman found unconscious in burglarized home
A local woman was arrested last Saturday after she was found passed out in the floor of a home she had broken into, police said.
Kayla Sparks, 26, 170 Osborn Hill Rd., Tuscumbia, was arrested on charges of third-degree burglary, third-degree theft of property, unlawful breaking and entering a motor vehicle, unlawful possession of a controlled substance and second-degree possession of marijuana.
According to Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett, the incident occurred on Aug. 16 at a home in the 2400 block of Jackson Avenue in Russellville.
Hargett said the homeowner returned to the residence at 7 p.m. and found broken glass where someone had gained entry into the home.
As the homeowner went through the house, Hargett said the person discovered a female unconscious on the floor and bleeding.
Police investigator Lt. Scotty Lowery said the homeowner called 911, and after being treated on the scene, the suspect was taken to the emergency room.
Lowery said they determined the female suspect had passed out after breaking into the home.
“Once the homeowner went through the house, it was discovered that several items were missing,” Lowery said.
“Some stolen checks were found on the suspect at the emergency room, but these ended up coming from a residence on Pace Street, which is close to where the suspect was found on Jackson Avenue.”
During the investigation, Lowery said Sparks was also accused of burglarizing the Pace Street home as well as a vehicle.
Sparks is currently in custody at the Franklin County Jail on a $6,000 bond.
