Work beginning on courthouse steps

Work will begin this week on the Franklin County Courthouse steps and landing area, courthouse officials said.

According to Probate Judge Barry Moore, work crews will begin replacing the granite steps and the landing at the front of the courthouse on Monday evening after the courthouse closes.

Moore said work is expected to last through Thursday, weather permitting.

During this time, anyone needing to conduct business inside the Franklin County Courthouse will need to use the handicap accessible doors located on the left side of the courthouse on Limestone Street.

Moore said workers will also have to block off the northbound lane of traffic on Jackson Avenue while they are working on this project.

Motorists who are traveling north through town will need to make plans to avoid the block the courthouse is located on.

Moore said the southbound lane of traffic in front of the courthouse will not be affected.

“We appreciate everyone’s patience and understanding as we get this much-needed project taken care of,” Moore said.

“When we are finished, we will have steps and a landing area that are in much better condition and are much safer for our citizens.”

Atkins Marble and Granite Works in Russellville was the low bidder for the project and received the contract for the job.
