Spring football practice will be concluding for Franklin County schools this week with spring football games this weekend.  Russellville still has a week of practice remaining before their spring football contest with Pleasant Grove.

Phil Campbell will travel to Lynn Saturday night to play Lynn and Meek. Red Bay will host Tishomingo County Friday night. Vina will host Tharptown and New Site, Miss., Friday night.

The games will give coaches and fans a preview of their 2014 squads before they break for summer.

“We’ve had a good spring so far,” said Phil Campbell coach Ryan Swinney.

“We are getting a lot accomplished and working on some basic fundamentals. We are also finding out who wants to work and who wants to play next fall. If you want to win a position battle, this is a good time to see who wants to step up and play.

“Our kids are looking forward to going to Lynn and competing. We hope to have fun and learn more about our players.”

Tharptown coach Bill Smith is pleased with his team’s progress.

“Spring is going great,” Smith said. “We are ready to play Friday night and look forward to the competition.”

Vina coach James Pharr could not be reached for comment.

A preview of Russellville’s spring game will be available next week.
