The Red Bay High School girls’ basketball team had an outstanding season that culminated with an appearance in the Class 2A girls’ basketball state championship game and the Lady Tigers bringing home a red map to commemorate their state runner-up finish.

At last Monday’s Franklin County Commission meeting, commissioners adopted a resolution recognizing the 2014 Red Bay Lady Tigers for their great season and for the way they represented the county on and off the court.

“I am so unbelievably proud of this team and all they accomplished,” commissioner Rayburn Massey said.

“There are many teams who would have given anything to come home with a red map, and we are extremely proud of these girls and of their coach for the great season they had.”

The commissioners also adopted a separate resolution honoring Red Bay Lady Tigers head basketball coach Donnie Roberts on his monumental achievement of 800 career wins, a milestone he reached earlier in the season.

“The success these girls had is a testament to their hard work and their talents, but it’s also a testament to their coach, Donnie Roberts,” commissioner Don Hastings said.

“He has had a successful career and we have ben lucky to have him at Red Bay. You can tell how much he is respected by his players, and he should be commended for his achievements.”
