Red Bay’s Lindsey earns recognition off the court

The commitment to academics by the Northeast Mississippi Community College women’s basketball team has continued into the final semester of the 2013-14 school year.
Jasmine Allen and Red Bay’s Lexy Lindsey joined the Iota Zeta chapter of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society during the organization’s spring induction ceremony on Monday, February 11.
“The entire Northeast family celebrates with Jasmine and Lexy,” said Lady Tigers head coach Brian Alexander.
“We stress the importance of being a student athlete in our program and these two young ladies are among the finest students on campus.”
Lindsey leads the duo of hardwood standouts and is currently perfect in the classroom after one semester at Northeast with a 4.0 grade point average.
A graduate of Red Bay High School, Lindsey appeared in all but one game for the Lady Tigers during the last campaign. She is a smooth shooter and hit 90.9 percent of her attempts from the free throw line, which topped the team.
The 5-6 guard is also a threat from beyond the arc and connected on 25 percent of her shots from that range, good for third best on the squad. Lindsey averaged 8.9 points per 40 minutes.
Lindsey served as one of the top ball handlers for Northeast and held a 1.5 assist to turnover ratio. That number was one of the ten best among athletes in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges (MACJC).
“First, I would like to thank God for helping me to get to this point in my life. I would be nothing without Him,” Lindsey said.
“I would also like to thank my parents for their support and my coaches for helping me stay on top of things.”
The pair of Allen and Lindsey are the eighth and ninth representatives of the Lady Tigers, respectively, to be initiated into Phi Theta Kappa in the last three seasons.
The women’s hoops team, under the direction of Alexander, is on track to maintain its 100 percent graduation rate, which is tops in the conference.
