Couple arrested on meth charges

A Russellville man and woman were arrested on Friday after a community tip led to the discovery of a meth lab that was manufactured in an apartment complex, authorities said.

Jerry Austin Swindle, 20, 633 Clay Ave., Russellville; and Ashley Dawn Miles, 32, Eastside Apartments 182, Russellville; were both charged with second-degree manufacture of a controlled substance, Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett said.

According to Hargett, investigators received information on Friday morning that there was a possible meth lab in Miles’ apartment.

Police investigator Lt. Scotty Lowery said investigators went to the apartment to follow up on the tip and were granted access to the apartment.

Lowery said upon entering the residence, investigators found evidence that an active cook had taken place prior to the officers’ arrival.

Lowery said items used to manufacture methamphetamine as well as items used in an active cook that had been discarded were also discovered on the property.

“We appreciate the community tip we received that led to these two arrests and to the discovery of the drug activity taking place at this apartment,” Hargett said.

“Not only were these individuals putting themselves in harm’s way, but they were also endangering the other residents by operating a meth lab in such close proximity to other apartments.”

Lowery said the Franklin County Drug Task Force assisted in the clean up of the lab.

Miles was released on bond. Swindle remains in custody at the Franklin County Jail.
