Tigers split first area series
The Golden Tigers won their first area series against Lawrence County this past week with the help of solid pitching and hitting from (clockwise from top left): Tyler Childers, Trevor Malone, Cody Greenhill and Austin Kitterman.

The Tigers lost a heartbreaker 10-inning game at Lawrence County last Tuesday.
Aaron Jackson started for the Tigers and pitched three and a third scoreless innings before Austin Bohannan came in for relief.
After giving up a couple hits and after several errors from the Tiger defense, Lawrence County was able to tie the game up.
“We should never win a game where we make seven errors and give up eight walks,” head coach Chris Heaps said.
“The only team we will beat will be ourselves.”
Jacob Green came in to relieve Bohannan and went the rest of the game for the Tigers only to loose in the 10th inning after a couple of wayward pitches.
Reed Smith had two hits and Austin Kitterman, Bailey Thompson, and Landon Oliver each had a hit in the 5-4 loss.
After the loss, the Tigers came roaring back in a doubleheader game against Lawrence County on Thursday.
The Tigers responded to their coach’s comment about their defense with the battery of Greenhill and Childers and the seven defensive players behind them by flashing the leather.
Greenhill pitched a seven-inning game having six strikeouts and only giving up three hits.
The combination of Greenhill’s great pitching performance and several great plays made in the field behind him led the Tigers to a 4-2 win.
The biggest hit of the series came from a sacrifice fly by Bailey Thompson that scored the go ahead run. Offensively, Trevor Malone went 3-3 and Hayden Evans added two hits also in the series.
In the second game of the doubleheader, RHS pitcher Austin Kitterman led the Tigers to a 7-0 win in the tiebreaker game of the Tigers’ first area series of the season.
The Tigers went into game three needing the win to give them a slight advantage in area play.
The Tigers played a solid game in the field.
Kitterman pitched six innings, had nine strikeouts, and only gave up two hits.
Trevor Malone was 5-5 in the double header adding two more hits in game three. Landon Oliver also had two hits along with Reed Smith and Kitterman grabbing two RBI sacs. Greenhill added another RBI, which gave the Tigers their seven runs.
Micah Fleming came in to finish the game for the Tigers in the 7th inning.
