Red Bay beats Covenant Christian 11-3

After trailing two runs, Red Bay’s varsity baseball team came back to pick-up a non conference 11-3 win over Covenant Christian last week.

The Eagles got off to a two-run lead on two RBIs in the bottom of the first inning, but Red Bay pulled to within one on an RBI by Nick Thorn in the top of the second.

Red Bay’s Chandler Allen tied the game at two all on an RBI that scored Landen Burgett from third.

Covenant Christian added another run in the third to take a 3-2 lead over Red Bay.

Red Bay tied the game at three all after Thorn stole home on a passed ball.

Red Bay went up one run on a single RBI to centerfield in the fifth by Jade Pounds, and with one out, Thorn singled to load the bases for the Tigers.

Landen Burgett walked, which brought in Reid Holt for a 5-3 lead for Red Bay.

Colby Knoblock added a sacrifice RBI to extend Red Bay’s lead to 6-3 in the fifth.

After Red Bay’s Fred Nethery was hit by a pitch to load the bases, Troy Borden belted a three run RBI triple to extend the Tigers’ lead to 9-3.

Thorn added an RBI standup double and Colby Knoblock also added an RBI to give the Tigers an 11-3 lead over the Eagles.

Red Bay retired Covenant Christian in their final at bat for the win.

Troy Borden was the winning pitcher for Red Bay, giving up five hits for three runs and nine strike-outs.

Red Bay won the game on 14 hits, while giving up only five.

Nick Thorn led Red Bay with three hits, Jade Pounds, Colby Knoblock, Chandler Allen, Austin Milam, and Troy Borden each had two hits. Kaleb Burroughs had one hit. Thorn, Borden, Milam, and Knoblock each had a double.

Red Bay will host Hamilton on March 12 and will travel to Covenant Christian on March 15 and to Vina on March 18.
