Students collect 861 cans of food

The Russellville Middle School chapters of Students Against Destructive Decisions (SADD) and Family, Career and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) hosted a canned food drive during the recent holiday season.

During the drive, RMS students collected 861 cans that were donated to the Salvation Army and given to local families in need during the holiday season.

“The canned food drive is so important because we helped people that need food,” FCCLA member Felipe Matias said.

“It shows we care about other people.”

FCCLA and SADD member Rebecca Parrish agreed.

“I think students should participate in the canned food drive because it is the right thing to do,” she said. “Students can make a difference by helping families who need it.”

SADD president Preston Goad said he was glad to have been part of such a good cause.

“Participating in the canned food drive is a great way to give back to our community,” Goad said.

“Donating cans helps many people that aren’t as fortunate during this holiday season. Donating is very easy to do. It is very important that everyone has food to eat, especially during the holidays.”

SADD sponsor Derek Gober and FCCLA advisor Rachel Agee thanked every student as well as the community for participating in the 2013 FCCLA and SADD Canned Food Drive.
