Woman indicted for baseball bat assault

A Russellville woman was indicted recently after allegedly hitting another woman with an aluminum bat during a physical altercation in June.

Janice Louise Trapp, 57, 16125 U.S. 43, Russellville, was indicted for second-degree assault, Franklin County District Attorney Joey Rushing said.

According to Russellville Police Chief Chris Hargett, the incident took place on June 3 at 10 p.m. at a residence in the 600 block of Monroe Street.

Hargett said Trapp and the 54-year-old victim apparently got into a verbal altercation at the residence.

During the verbal argument, Trapp allegedly picked up an aluminum bat and used it to hit the woman several times.

Hargett said the victim sustained bruises and lacerations to her head as well as a broken finger. The victim was treated at Russellville Hospital and later released.

Hargett said medical officials notified authorities about the incident and officers were dispatched to the hospital to take statements. Trapp was arrested following questioning.

Trapp’s case will be placed on the April criminal trial docket, Rushing said.
