Tips lead to 10 meth arrests
PHIL CAMPBELL – Franklin County Sheriff Shannon Oliver said he welcomes community input and concerns because oftentimes, those concerns can help the sheriff’s office as they try to better protect and serve the community.
Oliver said this was the case this past week as community tips led to the arrests of 10 different people in the county for meth-related crimes.
Oliver said arrests were made in two separate cases, both of which were investigated after officers with the Franklin County Drug Unit followed up on complaints registered with the sheriff’s office.
Those arrested included:
David J. Lewis, 46, 1287 Franklin 89, Phil Campbell, second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance; James Ray Abbott, 30, Frazier Lane, Phil Campbell, second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance; Danny Paul Glenn, 40, 1287 Franklin 89, Phil Campbell, second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance; Wendy L. Abbott, 27, 1287 Franklin 89, Phil Campbell, second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance;
Shelia Randolph, 48, 223 Ford Road, Phil Campbell, second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance and attempted second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance; Cory Wayne Guin, 26, Hackleburg; second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance and three counts of attempted second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance; Tracy Justin Guin, 19, Hackleburg; second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance and attempted second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance;
Patricia A. Abbott, 32, Frazier Lane, Phil Campbell, five counts of attempted second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance; Shannon Haney, 42, U.S. 43 North, Russellville, five counts of attempted second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance; and Cindy Jane Leidy, 40, Marie Lane, Russellville, three counts of attempted second-degree manufacturing a controlled substance.
Oliver said Lewis, Glenn, Jamie Abbott and Wendy Abbott were all arrested when a search warrant was executed on at a residence at 1287 Franklin 89 in Phil Campbell.
Oliver said investigators found an active meth lab in the yard of the residence when they arrived on the scene.
Randolph, Cory Guin and Tracy Guin were arrested when a search warrant was obtained and executed at 223 Ford Rd. in Phil Campbell.
Oliver said several complaints had been received about possible illegal activity occurring at the residence.
When officers began to follow up on the complaints, Oliver said several pseudoephedrine purchases were linked back to the residence as well.
Investigators said they discovered active and used meth labs at the residence.
Oliver said Haney, Leidy and Patricia Abbott were arrested for allegedly purchasing pseudoephedrine and providing it to individuals with the intent to manufacture methamphetamine.
Oliver said in both cases, children under the age of 10 years old were found to be living in the home while active meth labs were present.
“It is sad that people continue to manufacture drugs while they have children present in the home,” Oliver said.
“This is a dangerous situation and a child should not have to be exposed to these types of conditions.
“We appreciate the community’s help in providing us with tips that led to the investigation and arrest of these individuals.
“Meth is a continued problem in this area, but with the help of the community, the Drug Unit is doing an excellent job getting many of these people manufacturing meth off the streets.”
