Bernice Holmes Sweeney II, 76, died Monday, July 15, 2013, at North Mississippi Medical Center.

He was born June 9, 1937, in Nashville, Tenn., and was an Assistant Market Manager at Publix. He was a member of Golden Chapel United Methodist Church and a veteran of the U.S. Army.

Services were Thursday, July 18, 2013, at Golden Chapel United Methodist Church with Bro. Donnie Riley officiating. Burial was in Dennis Memory Garden, Dennis, Miss.

Survivors are his wife of 56 years, Evelyn Sweeney, Golden, Miss.; five children, Mary Evelyn Sweeney Diehl and husband, Robert Alan, Martha Diane Diehl and husband, Daryl R., and Franklin Daune Sweeney and wife, Jacqueline, all of Golden, Miss., Bernice Holmes Sweeney III and wife, Mary Ann Fairview, Miss., and Lisa Elaine Finch, Nashville, Tenn.; eleven grandchildren, Michael Alexander Harland and wife, Selina, Trudy Melissa Liadacker and husband, Josh, Robert Alan Diehl Jr, Daryl Richard Diehl Jr. and wife, Renee, William Junior Sweeney, Bernice Holmes Sweeney IV, (Stacy), April Pounders, Shondra Gail Blanton and husband, Kyle, Nikki Kennedy and husband, Kevin, Lynne Carranza and husband, Anthony, and Tonya Alonso and husband, Borris;

great-grandchildren, Clayton, Savannah, Benjamin, Devin, Bryan, Molly, Richard, Emilee, Gracie, Sara, Zachary, Jacob, Randy, Mackenzie, Ariana, Anthony Jr., Sophia, Joshua, Aaron, Noah, Marissa and Clarissa; one brother, Willard Sweeney and wife, Judy, and one sister, Juanita Garrell.

He was preceded in death by two grandchildren, Heather Hammock and Michael Brian Sweeney Clement, three sisters, Imogene, Emmajune and Hazel and a brother, Douglas.

Pallbearers were Benny Sweeney, Jay Sweeney, Bernie Sweeney, Joe Slayton, Cody Martin, John Brown, Rick Sweeney and Kyle Blanton. Honorary pallbearers were Daryl Diehl and Robert Diehl.
