Tharptown falls to Phillips

THARPTOWN —  Four turnovers were too much for the Tharptown Wildcats to overcome as they fell to the Phillips Bears 42-14 Friday night.

The Bears jumped in front early with an 8-0 lead.

Tharptown stormed back on some big runs by Kelby Hallmark and Mike Rice.  The Wilcats closed the lead to 8-6 on a one-yard run by Hallmark with 5:17 remaining in the first quarter.

Phillips would score 34 unanswered points before the Wildcats were able to reach the end zone again late in the fourth quarter.

Mike Rice scored on an eight-yard run with 5:44 to go in the game.

Hallmark added the two-point conversion with a sprint around the right end.

Hallmark ended the game with 19 carries and 189 yards rushing.

Phillips quarterback Rodney Camp ended the game completing 13 of 17 passes for 257 yards and five touchdown passes.

The Wildcats will play the Hackleburg Panthers next Thursday night at Hamilton.
