Hill named Russellville Senior Citizen of the Month

The Russellville Senior Center’s Senior of the Month for April was Gracie Hill.
Hill, 77, hasn’t always been a resident of Franklin County but she said she has enjoyed the past three and a half years that she has lived here.
Hill was born in Crenshaw County in the town of Brantley. After she got married, she moved to Buffalo, N.Y., where she lived for over 40 years and raised her family, which includes her daughter, Latessa Henderson, and son, Willie Ben Hill, who still reside in Buffalo; her son, Gregory Hill, of Brantley; her son, Ali Moore, of Russellville; and the late Grace A. Hill. She also has three daughters-in-law, Irene Moore, Davolia De-Co-Carver-Hill and Yvon Hill; 20 grandchildren and 31 great-grandchildren.
When Hill moved to Russellville, she stayed with her son, Ali, for a year before moving out on her own. She said she was very proud of her son for his accomplishments.
“He worked with USDA Food Inspection Services for 22 years and retired with them here in Russellville,” she said. “He was also called up to Iraq in 2003 and due to losing his leg, he was forced to retire after 26 years of service.
“I have a lot of respect for my son for serving our country that many years and having to leave his family behind. I also have respect for all military personnel who have served in wars.”
In her spare time, Hill said she enjoyed spending time with her family, going to church and fishing.
“I love to fish,” she said. “That’s my favorite hobby.”
Hill said she also enjoyed coming to the Senior Center and seeing all the people there.
“I have made lots of friends since I have been here and I enjoy the fellowship,” she said. “Mrs. Cathye Garrison has been such a nice person to me and all of us here at the Center and I think she deserves something special for all the kindness she shows to the people who come here daily.”
Hill said she planned to come to the Senior Center as long as she could.
“This is a nice place for us to meet, and I appreciate being chosen as the Senior of the Month.”
